21st Century Toys WC57 Dodge Command Car Review

21 st Century’s “XD Xtreme Detail” military series offers a 1:18 th scale version of the WC57 Dodge Command Car ¾ ton, 4x4 used by General S. Patton, Jr. during WWII. The replica comes in a window box packaging, which show cases the replica. The WC57 is molded in pre-painted plastic accurate to the time period with loads of small details and accessories. Also included are three scaled articulated action figures of General Patton Jr., his bull terrier “Willy” and Patton’s trusted driver all fully detailed right down to Patton’s infamous mug. The Replica of the WC57 Command Car comes with Patton’s personalized extras like a winch, air horns, his pedestal mounted .50 MG. (located on the right side of the car), repositioned Jerri cans and side reflectors. There is also a radiator plate located in the front and a luggage rack with tools in the back. The ragtop is molded in the down position and an alternate retracted ragtop is not offered. The front hoods (split format) open to reveal the 6 cylinder in line engine, which looks fully accurate and detailed. Both the under carriage and interior are fully detailed and close to accurate compared to the real vehicle. The original vehicle was modified to Patton’s request with loads of extras not found in the average WC57 Dodges, which were made from 1942-1945 for the US Army during wartime.

 

Packaging 7/10

The Packaging shows off the Dodge and the figures offered very well, but more windows on the sides of the box I feel would have enhanced the collector’s view of the replica.

 

Details 9/10

21 st Century toys never disappoint their consumers when it comes to details. This replica is filled with tons of details right down to the road dust found on the windshield. The details can be found from top to bottom and from front to back. I figured since they added road dust on the windshield, a little road grime on the tires and exterior would of made a 10 out of 10 rating.

 

Sculpting (action figures) 9/10

Both Patton and his driver have 12 points of articulation, unfortunately Willy the dog does not. Like the model and all of 21 st Century action figures offered in 1:18 th scale they are extremely detailed. They are well painted and well sculpted as we have come to expect and enjoy from 21 st century toys.

 

Painting 9/10

Both car and figures are painted extremely well and accurate for the time period. The replica I have has no flaw marks or smudges like some of its competitors. I would of liked it if they continued the weathering through out the replica like the extra details on the windshield.

 

Overall 9/10

This replica of the WC57 Dodge Command Car ¾ ton, 4x4 modified for General Patton is an exceptional offering by 21 st Century XD military series. 21st never seems to disappoint their consumers whether it’s in their smaller scale replicas to their larger 1:18 th scale replicas. I highly recommend the WC57 dodge to any avid military replica collector. This is definitely a must have item.
