Name: Todd Klacko

Location: Ontario Canada

1- What is it that you collect?
At the moment I collect: Marvel Legends, DC direct, Mini Mates (and c3), Glow in the Dark figures, General comic related toys (toy biz etc), hot wheels (and such like maisto, JL etc) COMIC related cars, signed authentic COMIC related photographs, Mcfarlane Movie maniacs, Full collection of secret wars (No black clawed wolvie) and Full collection of super powers, AND The BATMOBILE (over 100 of them I think so far). (and close to 7000 comics too!)

2- What was it that brought you to collecting? And what is that keeps you going?
I love the ‘fantasy’ aspect of collecting toys/comics and the release it can give you. I also teach kids so they are often the inspiration to keep going as they constantly want to know whats new and out there at any time.

3- When did you start collecting?
Around the time that super powers came out. (most of my collection of these are still what I owned as a kid)

4- Why (what you collect) example:Batman, Star Wars, Transformers, etc…?
I collect the batmobile especially because of the endless variants that can be(and have been) produced. The rest of the stuff is just stuff I like.

5- When did you start displaying them?
For as long as I can remember. At least 20 years.

6- How do you get your inspiration to organize and display your collection?
All the glow in the dark figs stay together but the rest are displayed by team usually. I am still looking for a good way to display them as space is limited!

7- Do you have a favorite character(s) you collect?
Not a character but I love the BATMOBILE

8- Which item in your collection would you say is your absolute favorite and why?
Funny answer as my ‘favorite’ is not part of my collection per-se. It’s a piece of art work that I found at a convention. It shows batman, spectre, deadman, and green arrow. It looks like a water color or a WC print and im sure someone who knows artists better than I do would recognize the artist. This is the only thing I have never put away. It always finds a place on my walls. I really cant say why I love it so much but I do!

9- Which item was the most difficult to obtain? And which one is your prized possession?
Most difficult porbabally were Electro and Constrictor from secret wars line. They where only released in Europe. I have them both MOC and I have Iceman loose. My most prized piece is a small rubber batmobile thing that was made by a ‘stamp’ or press machine. I have never seen another one of them.

10- What is the oldest item you own? and the one with the most value?
Well I ‘think’ the oldest piece I have is a Rom the Space Knight with box, inserts and accessories produced by Parker Brothers (yes they did a few toys) in 1979. I think he is the most valuable piece I have to. (mint on card Cyborg from super powers might be worth more now but im not sure)

11- What inspires you to purchase an item to add to your collection?
Sometimes it’s the coolness of an item (ML 7 Ghost rider!), the rareness of it (Im in Canada so the seach can be a lot of fun or headache), or just if it fits to the collection well.

12- Customizing figures and statues has become very big, have you ever purchased a custom figure or statue and have you ever tried making one?
Not into that at all.

13- What do you think of the custom Craze?
Good for them but not for me.

14- Where do you make most of your purchases from? ebay seems to be a favorite with Collectors these days, are you an ebayholic?
I use (sell and buy) from ebay a fair bit but im not an ebayholic. Around here I go to wal-mart and zellers and the local toy/comic store.

15- Is your Collection insured?
Unfortunately no.

16- What is missing from your Collection that you hope to one day acquire?
God the list is huge: Christopher Reeve signed pic, older tin (argentinian) batmobiles, Old ideal toy set batmobile, Captain Ray (argentinian super powers fig), Glow in dark homer, I have heard rumor of a Captain America plane by corgi or hotwheels in the mid 80s but cant verify it . Lots of other stuff too. lol

17- What is the usual reaction when people see your Collection?
Well I don’t share the collection with most people unless they are into it BUT the kids I coach/teach etc are blown away by it!

18- Do you attend conventions for some of your purchases? could you tell us about that?
I do go to Toronto comic con. They combine comic/toys with scifi, animie, and horror (my second passion) once a year for a great show. I met Darth Vader, Darth Maul/Toad, Jason (Hollween movies), all were cool guys. Oh and Lou ferigno (original tv hulk) whos a jerk in my opinion.

19- Most Collectors today go on what they call a toy run, do you participate in that as well? And what are your favorite spots? Do you have a routine?
I go to the comic shop usually every sat morning and stop at walmart and zellers.

20- How do you decide what to take out of the package and what stays sealed?
If I buy it at cost it gets opened. Nearly everyting I own is at cost and opened. I leave some stuff in packages cause the package enhances the item, but not many of them.

21- At what stage do you think your Collection will be at 10 years from now, do you think you would have grown tired of it?
I have liquidated loads over the years because I like the newer figure versions. I don’t see my toy cars or batmobiles going anywhere tho! Both will continue to grow and grow. I forsee my autograph collection as being sold as I don’t have the room to really show it off.

22- What advice would you give someone who just started a Collection?
Don’t be a completist! Buy what u like and can afford. Ebay is fine for rarer items but wait and you usually can find it.
