Sideshow Collectables Modern Horror Classic-Michael Myers Review
By Neil Beedie
Sideshow Collectables is renowned for their amazingly detailed range of figures and busts. With the edition of their Modern horror line, they have made many fans of the genre satisfied and screaming for more. The late addition of Michael Myers was a very good choice. Now of course everyone knows Michael, this movie was what practically created the modern horror genre, Yes I’m talking about Halloween.
In 1978 Halloween terrified audiences with the evil mental patient, Michael Myers, who escaped Halloween night and went on a bloody rampage. Of course many sequels spawned (7 in total, not including Halloween III) and another one on the way. But without further ado, here is the review for Sideshow’s 12” Modern Horror Classic- Michael Myers.
Packaging- 5/5
Sideshow has always been strong with their packaging for 1/6 scale figures, my favourite personally. Sideshow has varied with their packaging for the figures, some more collector friendly than others. They have done a good job with this one, and no major difficulties.
It looks great and features a picture of the actual figure on the front of the box. The inside flap shows the list of the cast and a nice poster for the movie. To the right shows the figure brand-spanking-new. The back has a short summary of the movie and some screen shots to satisfy. This is personally one of my favourite Modern Horror boxes, let alone packaging from sideshow.
Sculpt-3/5
Michael figures have been sculpted by Matt Falls who has done it justice. Michael is in the middle with the sculpting compared to other horror figures. The main reason for this is the likeness.
Michael’s mask looks quite good, though not 100% accurate. The distinct difference between the sculpt and what he should look like is the mouth. Sideshow has given him a deep frown, whereas in the films his face is more a sick smile. The hair wasn’t what I anticipated and is rather short at the back but long at the front, at first it didn’t look right but I grew to like it.
Body Sculpt- 5/5
Sideshow have done a great job with the hand sculpt and shoes. His right hand is clenched, and looks great with the knife in. They show his veins and make him look that bit better and threatening. The shoe sculpt is also very realistic even showing scuff marks at the front which make it even more authentic.
Paint- 5/5
The paint ops are great overall and do the figure justice, as the paint ops can make or break a figure. His mask is pasty white and the eye sockets have been darkened. The eyebrows are thick and do not look like they do on the front of the box but in fact better and closer to the real thing.
Articulation-5/5
Coming from sideshow full marks is no surprise. It’s the usual sideshow body counting over 30 points of articulation. My figure was very firm and had no loose joints as such.
Accessories-4/5
Michael doesn’t feature a large range of accessories but does feature innovation and some thought. He comes with his Halloween stand, signature butcher’s knife, bloody and all.
He also comes with two other accessories a white sheet and sunglasses. This is taken of course from the scene where Michael disguises himself from the unsuspecting teen and then strangles her with the phone cord, great stuff. It isn’t too much but was boosted up because of the innovation of the accessories.
Outfit-5/5
You can’t really go wrong with this; Michael comes with his grey jumpsuit. It is tailored very well, if not a tad too large, nothing major. Good job from the team.
Overall- 8/10
Michael is a stunning late addition to the modern horror line and does it justice. Although the likeness isn’t 100% it looks great and is innovative. The box is a personal fave and should be owned by all horror fans let alone collectors.
