Name: Michael P. Neal

Location: Madera, CA

1- What do you Collect?
I collect strictly Wolverine of the X men and a couple of Punisher figures

2- When and How did you start Collecting and what keeps you going?
I started about 10 years ago.  My wife is a great support and she and my 16 grandkids are a great motivator.

3- Why do you Collect what you Collect?
I collect Wolverine figures because of the limited quantities of these figures and all of my friends collected Star Wars and Batman/Superman figures.  I also identify with the James Howlett up bringing and Loner persona of Logan.

4- When did you begin to display your Collection?
When I realized that I had an extra room and the Grand kids were a great help.

5- How do you get your inspiration to organize and display your Collection?
I have the “Space available” approach to my X Room.  If I can find a space, I will fill it with a new piece.

6- Do you “Collect ‘em all”, or just the ones you like?
I collect them all, my goal is to keep them in the original box and if I find a newer piece with better packaging, one of my G Kids get the old one.

7- Do you have a favorite character that you Collect?
Weapon X and Weapon X only.

8- Which item in your Collection would you say is your absolute favorite and why?
My favorite piece is the Wolverine figure made out of pewter and he is on a metal rock.  This is the first Piece my wife gave me and it means the world to me.

9- How much do you spend a month on your Collection?
Prices vary on a monthly basis, I save up for the limited figures and Ebay some items.

10- Which item was the most difficult to obtain?
The hardest figure to obtain is one that I had and accidentally destroyed and threw the damaged figure away instead of repairing it. It was a knock off figure of Wolverine in drag with fishnet stockings and red nails instead of metal claws.
I am still looking for this if anyone has one contact me.

11- What is the oldest item you own and the one with the most value?
Secret Wars figure with the black claws in the original package and the Diamond Series figure coming out of the tunnel

12- What is your “Holy Grail”?
A decent copy of Incredible Hulk 181 comic book and an Atakus Wolverine from France.

13- What inspires your to purchase an item to add to your Collection?
When I want a piece for my collection, I will work for it and obtain it at any cost.

14- Customizing figures and statues has become very big, have you ever purchased a custom figure or statue and have you ever tried making one?
I have never purchased one but I have 2 wolverine figures that I am working on with polished silver claws sharpened to a point.

15- Where do you make most of your purchases from?
Ebay

16- How does your partner (wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend) feel about your collection?
My greatest supporter

17- Do you ever get hassled about being a toy collector?
Never, mainly I get positive feedback and people admire my collection.

18- What will happen to your collection after you've passed away?
I have a file saved for my wife on my computer to sell the Motorcycle, Every figure and all comic books on Ebay.

19- Is your collection insured?
Yes

20- What is missing from your collection that you hope to one day acquire?
My Holy Grail items

21- What toy did you have as a kid that you most wish you had kept or, at least, kept in good condition for your collection?
None, that is why I  collect now, I am living my life and having a second childhood now.

22- If you needed to raise cash quick, would you consider selling (some of) your collection? If so, what would you NEVER sell?
Motorcycle first, Comics second and All figures third

23- What is the usual reaction when people see your collection?
Some people just stand in the middle of the room and look at all four walls and scan for items that they can connect with.  Some kids get real excited and want to open  and play with them.

24- Do you attend conventions for some of your purchases? could you tell us about that?
Definitely yes, All shows in California and the one in Las Vegas.  My wife and I also visited Marvel Headquarters in NY before they moved.

25- Most collectors today go on what they call a toy run, do you participate in that as well? And what are your favorite spots? Tell us about your routine.
I mainly visit a few stores in Fresno, Toys R Us and Kay Bee Toys.  My main collection site is  the internet.  My wife collects  all of the new ones, like when the movies come out and we work the net for all of the hard to get items.

26- How do you decide what to take out of the package and what stays sealed?
All figures are displayed out of the box and all action figures stay in their original packaging.

27- At what stage do you think your collection will be at 10 years from now, do you think you would have grown tired of it?
No. Never get tired of the collection.  My wife is getting tired of the collection and Wants me to sell it all for about $10,000.00  The Motorcycle, over 5000 comic books and over 1000 pieces of Wolverine items in original packaging.

28- What advice would you give someone who just started a collection?
Don’t open any packaging and keep the pieces clean and neat.
