Name: Matt (Fball13z)

Location: Canton, GA

1- what is it that you collect?
Right now I collect a lot of DC Direct figures, Marvel Legends figures, Street Fighter Figures, Justice League Unlimited (Mattel), Batman/The Batman (Mattel), MiniMates (DC, Marvel and LOTR), Mezits, Movie Figures, Spiderman and Friends, Teen Titans (Bandi), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers and WWE Figures. Plus anything else I think is cool.

2- what was it that brought you to collecting? And what is that keeps you going?
When I was younger I had all kinds of toys, MOTU, GI Joes, Star wars and etc. You name it, I had it. When I was a little older, about 15 or 16, I went downstairs in the basement to find something in my toy boxes. I looked and looked and I couldn’t find anything. So I asked my mom where they were and she told me some bad news. The year before, my stepfather gave my toys away!!!!! I was heart broken and ticked off!!! So flash forward to 2001, I find the new He-man and Skeletor figures at KB Toys, so I had to have them! And it’s been down hill since! I did have some toys before that, but I was never a collector. What keeps me going? What doesn’t? This is a great time to be a big kid! And with toy companies coming around to the fact that us big kids are a big market, they just keep making great stuff for us to buy.

3- when did you start collecting?
Officially Summer 2001

4- Why (what you collect) example: Batman, Star Wars, Transformers, etc…?
If I collect something, its because I either had them as a kid or I just think they look sweet.

5- when did you start displaying them?
From the beginning. First it was just pinned to my wall, then on top of my TV and now I have a whole room full!!

6- How do you get your inspiration to organize and display your collection?
Don’t really know, just thought it would be cool to have everything out at once.

7- Do you have a favorite character(s) you collect?
MOTU and Batman.

8- Which item in your collection would you say is your absolute favorite and why?
My SDCC 2001 He-Man figure. I think its cool to have something that limited and numbered. You couldn’t pay me enough to take it.

9- Which item was the most difficult to obtain? And which one is your prized possession?
See above.

10- What is the oldest item you own? and the one with the most value?
I don’t really have anything really old, not yet at least. I want to go back and get all the old MOTU figures at some point and time. My SDCC 2001 He-Man as the most value I think.

11- What inspires you to purchase an item to add to your collection?
If I know something about it or if it just looks cool.

12- Customizing figures and statues has become very big, have you ever purchased a custom figure or statue and have you ever tried making one?
I bought a custom Count Marzo and I still have it displayed. Never tired to make a custom figure, all though I did make a custom battlefield for my MOTU figures, but it took up to much room and had to take it apart.

13- What do you think of the custom Craze?
I admire a lot of the ones I see and I wish I had the talent to make them.

14- Where do you make most of your purchases from? ebay seems to be a favorite with collectors these days, are you an ebayholic?
Ebay can be a great thing and an evil thing. I think its great for finding older stuff or loose stuff. But I hate seeing someone buy 20 of something brand new just to sell it on ebay. I buy about half of my stuff from online stores and the rest from places like TRU, Wal-Mart and Media Play.

15- Is your collection insured?
No, but its going to be soon.

16- What is missing from your collection that you hope to one day acquire?
Old MOTU stuff and the first line of Superman figures from DCD.

17- What is the usual reaction when people see your collection?
That Im crazy and it looks like a store.

18- Do you attend conventions for some of your purchases? could you tell us about that?
Nope.

19- Most collectors today go on what they call a toy run, do you participate in that as well? And what are your favorite spots? Do you have a routine?
Yeah every weekend, I visit at least 3 or 4 Walmarts, Go to TRU, a couple Targets, a Kmart and a Media Play.

20- How do you decide what to take out of the package and what stays sealed?
When I first started everything stayed in its plastic prison, but it started to get old and I was getting a little bored. So one day I just started opening things and I never looked back! I do still have some stuff I leave in boxes; Chase figures, Exclusives and stuff that just looks great in the package, like Kingdom Come and WWE Classic Superstars.

21- At what stage do you think your collection will be at 10 years from now, do you think you would have grown tired of it?
I hope to get my son or daughter(which ever one I have) into collecting toys. So we can go to the store and it will be one for you and one for daddy. I may need a new house just for our toys by then.

22- What advice would you give someone who just started a collection?
Make sure you only buy thing you think are cool. Don’t buy things just for value or because someone said they are cool. And don’t be like me when I started, I felt like even if I only wanted two figures in series I still but the whole series just to say I had them all. I wasted a lot money doing that. Know I just buy what I want and I have never been happier.
