Name: Joe Fulton (a.k.a Lando Da Pimp from Millionaireplayboy.com)

Location: Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania

1- What is it that you collect?
My collection is mostly made up of Star Wars figures. I also collect LEGO sets as well. I will buy anything if I like it however. Lately though I have stopped collecting every Star Wars figures and only focus on figures that interest me. Some of the other collections include LOTR and Simpsons. My favorite thing I collect which is not in my toy room are my toy train collection. I have a large variety of HO and O Gauge trains. I am in the process of building a train layout to run them.

2- What was it that brought you to collecting? And what is that keeps you going?
Star Wars is a huge influence on my life growing up. It was really the first action figure collection that I had. What keeps me going is tough to say. There are times that I think I don’t need to buy that figure. Then I think about how much fun it is and that pretty much sums up why I collect. Because it’s fun.

3- When did you start collecting?
I started collecting about 1981. Empire Strikes Back collection was widely available. Star Wars was the main reason. Through the time that led to other collections including Transformers, GI-Joe, etc….

4- Why (what you collect) example: Batman, Star Wars, Transformers, etc…?
See above answers

5- When did you start displaying them?
Unfortunately I finally have my own toy room so just this summer. Before that everything was stored away.

6- How do you get your inspiration to organize and display your collection?
I wanted to showcase my Star Wars figures

7- Do you have a favorite character(s) you collect?
Boba Fett / Jango Fett. I have always been obsessed with this character since 1981. The costume was and still is the best of the Star Wars movies. I have a shelf space dedicated to everything Boba Fett and even a few Jango Fett figures.

8- Which item in your collection would you say is your absolute favorite and why?
I have a few favorite toys. Growing up my Mattel Millennium Falcon playset was the greatest toy ever. I still have that along with my original Optimus Prime. Both are very beat up but I could never part with them. This year my favorite action figure is the Palisades Adventure Kermit. It’s amazing how great that figure is and the fact that Lucas and Spielberg allowed it is great.

9- Which item was the most difficult to obtain? And which one is your prized possession?
The most difficult to obtain lately was the Princess Leia Slave Girl Unleashed. I finally found it a few weeks ago.

10- What is the oldest item you own? and the one with the most value?
The oldest item I own is probably the figures from Episode IV. I have a few that are still in decent shape. My most valuable is the Toy Fair jacks Pacific Ultimate Warrior action figure. That seems to sell for a good $400 on e-bay.

11- What inspires you to purchase an item to add to your collection?
Nothing really inspires me but when I see something that I like I get it.

12- Customizing figures and statues has become very big, have you ever purchased a custom figure or statue and have you ever tried making one?
I think customizing is great. I have never bought one but I have seen a lot of great custom figures.

13- What do you think of the custom Craze?
There wouldn’t be a need for customizing if the toy companies would give the collectors what they want.

14- Where do you make most of your purchases from? ebay seems to be a favorite with collectors these days, are you an ebayholic?
Usually I find what I want at Target or Toys R’ Us. Sometimes Wal-Mart. The best places are stores like K-Mart that have small toy departments but a lot of people don’t go to. I like ebay but I don’t buy toys on ebay because of the outrages prices some toys go for. I tried it a few years ago and got ripped off on an auction that was claimed mint but came all banged up. Ebay is impossible to contact to deal with these fraud issues.

 15- Is your collection insured?
Home Insurance covers it so thank god!!!

16- What is missing from your collection that you hope to one day acquire?
I wish that my older toys were in better shape.

17- What is the usual reaction when people see your collection?
Wow you love Star Wars.

18- Do you attend conventions for some of your purchases? could you tell us about that?
I don’t go to many conventions. For the past two years I have gone to Toy Fair in New York for Millioniareplayboy.com. That is the ultimate convention. I would think that the fair should be open to the public for a few days. Fans would love to see all the new toys.

19- Most collectors today go on what they call a toy run, do you participate in that as well? And what are your favorite spots? Do you have a routine?
I think it is a waste of time to go every week. Around Pittsburgh the stores get new merchandise very rarely. It is fun to hunt for these figures but when your area goes through a dry spell it is more frustrating than fun. No real routine. Toys R’ Us is usually the best place to go.

20- How do you decide what to take out of the package and what stays sealed?
I used to open my Star Wars figures but it got to the point where I had no space to put them anywhere and I would lose the accessories. I now keep most of my action figures in the package. However I do buy figures to open because after all they are toys and are meant to be played with.

21- At what stage do you think your collection will be at 10 years from now, do you think you would have grown tired of it?
Well I can’t see collecting Star Wars figures much longer after Episode III. If they continue to release them they will be new sculpts of figures. I have about 10 different Darth Vaders. Do I really need more? I see myself slowing down as well. When I do have kids I will probably help start their collection and teach them the fun of it.

22- What advice would you give someone who just started a collection?
Don’t worry about having everything. It’s quality not quantity. I know a guy who believes its important to have every figure. He is a troop builder and has hundreds of Stormtroopers. That’s insane. But it also has to be fun. If you don’t like a toy don’t buy it. Don’t get it because it may be worth money. Buy it because you like it.
