Name: Bob Newton

Location:

1- What is it that you collect?
I only collect Star Wars toys

2- What was it that brought you to collecting? And what is that keeps you going?
I have collected things all my life. When I was a kid it was stamps, coins, rocks, what have you. When I was older it was the Hockey cards, Comics. So I have always had the collecting bug.

3- When did you start collecting?
I've collected Star Wars since the beginning, but dropped out of it in 85, but I got back into it in 95 and haven't stopped.

4- Why (what you collect) example:Batman, Star Wars, Transformers, etc…?
I love Star Wars more than any other movie, so collecting it was destiny.

5- When did you start displaying them?
Always, but big time since I bought the house I live in now.

6- How do you get your inspiration to organize and display your collection?
Mostly it was trial and error, but over the years and after seeing other collector’s displays, I refined what I wanted.

7- Do you have a favorite character(s) you collect?
I guess it would be either R2 or Stormtroopers

8- Which item in your collection would you say is your absolute favorite and why?
Oh that is almost too difficult to answer. I guess it would be my Illusive Concepts 12" Jabba the Hutt. I'm a big time 12" figure collector and it was the most cool 12" figure out on the market out there.

9- Which item was the most difficult to obtain? And which one is your prized possession?
My 7 ft Naboo Fighter. I was very lucky in getting it. My most prized piece, I would say my 12" Jabba

10- What is the oldest item you own? and the one with the most value?
Too many old items to list. I guess all my loose Vintage figs and ships.  That would be my Vintage Shuttle, MIB

11- What inspires you to purchase an item to add to your collection?
Mostly what I might be missing or rarity.

12-Customizing figures and statues have become very big, have you ever purchased a custom figure or statue and have you ever tried making one?
I've never bought a Custom fig but I make many myself.

13- What do you think of the custom Craze?
It's great. So many people are making customs that you otherwise would never see in production.

14- Where do you make most of your purchases from? eBay seems to be a favorite with collectors these days, are you an ebayholic?
EBay or retail. No online shops. But I do Trade allot. I have probably over a thousand trades under my belt.

15- Is your collection insured?
Yes, of course.

16- What is missing from your collection that you hope to one day acquire?
Not too much. Maybe some more Vintage Star Wars "carded figures" other than that, I'm mostly caught up in what I need.

17- What is the usual reaction when people see your collection?
One of 2 reactions. 1st, mouth drop open amazement. Or 2nd, what the heck are doing with all these toys, you're a grown man, get on with life and get rid of this junk. I mostly like the 1st reaction, hehe.

18- Do you attend conventions for some of your purchases? could you tell us about that?
I went to C3 in Indy this year and did some buying there. There are a couple of Toy shows here in Edmonton that I go to as well. What I've bought?  Nothing out of the norm.

19- Most collectors today go on what they call a toy run; do you participate in that as well? And what are your favorite spots? Do you have a routine?
Oh yeah, at least once a week I go to if not to all the retail outlets that sell SW's.  I guess it would be TRU and Wal-Mart.

20- How do you decide what to take out of the package and what stays sealed?
Rarity mostly. I buy 2, one to keep carded or boxed and 1 to display.

21- At what stage do you think your collection will be at 10 years from now, do you think you would have grown tired of it?
I don't know. Hasbro has the rights to make SW's till 2018 I believe, so hopefully I'll still be collecting. I might not be into it as much as I am now, but I still see myself collecting SW's 10 years from now.

22- What advice would you give someone who just started a collection?
Collect only what you like, not what your peers pressure you to collect.
